Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jacqueline Marie "Jackie"
Evancho has always been drawn to the big sound and sweeping emotions of popular and operatic musicians. After receiving a
DVD of The Phantom of the Opera for her eighth birthday, she couldn't stop singing the powerful songs around the house. When
the 8 year old songbird placed second to a 20-year-old opera singer in a local talent show, her parents
realized the extent of her talent and started giving her voice lessons. She quickly rose to distinguish herself in effervescent
performances across America, such as the U.S.A. World Showcase Talent Competition in Las Vegas and the PBS special "Celebrate
After two unsuccessful attempts, the determined Evancho made the roster for America's Got Talent in 2010 by
winning the show's YouTube contest. Her deeply felt performance of "O mio babbino caro" would earn a standing ovation and
prompt judge Howie Mandel to proclaim her a "star." She placed second in the competition, and won national acclaim as a sparkling
new talent with a pure and exceptionally powerful young voice.
Evancho has since released a string of commercially successful
records, from her platinum O Holy Night (2010) to her latest Songs from the Silver Screen (2012), her third album to debut
in Billboard 200's top 10. She has promoted her albums on popular programs such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, The View and The
Tonight Show, as well as on tours across America and in Japan.She is currently working on an album called Awakening, set to
release in September 2014.
Evancho has participated in numerous charity efforts, performing in various galas and benefits
for causes such as breast cancer, worldwide access to clean water, ending world hunger and supporting the arts in public education.
As the face of Mission: Humane, she encourages kids to protect animals.
Evancho got national
attention in the 2009 PBS special "Celebrate America," where she sang "Ave Maria." But it wasn't until she became a contestant
on America's Got Talent that she would gain traction with millions of viewers. She was widely accepted as the favorite contestant
but placed second to blues singer Michael Grimm. Despite failing to garner top honors, Evancho was well on her way to winning
Evancho has gone on to enjoy commercial and critical success. She would be the youngest solo musician
to snag a top 10 spot in the Billboard 200 with her holiday album O Holy Night, which went platinum less than a month after
its release. Dream with Me, her sophomore album, was certified gold. Earning 3.5 stars from Allmusic, it would solidify her
debut as a promising young vocalist. Her latest, Songs from the Silver Screen, scored another 3.5 stars and earned praise
for its "maturity and poise." These albums would make Evancho the youngest artist with three albums in the top 10.
