Jackson Browne Background

While Jackson Browne was born in Germany, due to his father's job overseas, he spent most of his childhood in California. Living in Los Angeles, a key hub for the rock scene of the '60s and '70s, became instrumental to Browne's desire to pursue music. While he was just a teenager, Browne started performing at iconic venues in LA like The Troubadour Club and Ash Grove. By the time he graduated high school, there was no doubt in Browne's mind that he wanted to become a singer-songwriter, so he packed up and decided to move out to New York City to experience a change of scenery and to pursue his musical dreams. Browne joined the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1966, and he became one of the band's most important members, as he penned one fantastic song after another. It became incredibly clear that Jackson Browne had a phenomenal talent for songwriting.

During his several years in New York, Browne joined several different bands, gradually earning the reputation as a phenomenal singer-songwriter and live performer. Eventually, Browne decided to pack up and head back to Los Angeles, where he would begin his solo career with a bang. He started writing songs for artists like Joan Baez, the Eagles, Greg Allman, and the Byrds, and before he knew it, he was one of the hottest new artists on the scene. Even Rolling Stone called Browne the "new face to look for" in the music industry, and so Browne hit the recording studio to start churning out his own original tunes.

In 1972, Jackson Browne released his eponymous debut album, which featured hit tracks like "Rock Me On the Water", "Doctor My Eyes", "Song for Adam", and "Jamaica Say You Will". His debut album was a clear success. From then on, it was as if nothing could hold back this talented singer-songwriter. He penned one hit song after another, such as classic rock tracks like "Take It Easy", "Fountain of Sorrow", and "The Road". After experiencing monumental success in the '70s for his music, Jackson Browne also became known for his social activism, protesting nuclear power plants and various US-backed wars. Even though he was devoted to these causes, he didn't give up music, much to the delight of his fans. Songwriting is like breathing for Jackson Browne; he simply can't give it up.

In 2004, Browne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and shortly afterward he also was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. There is no doubt that Browne has been an influential and iconic figure in the rock world over the decades, so it's no surprise that he has racked up countless awards and honors.
