About The Artist
Picking up the ukulele at
age four when he was given one by his ukulele player mother, Jake Shimibukuro quickly came to master it and initially came
to prominence in 1998 with the band "Pure Heart". This group released three albums and won a multitude of awards for their
work, but only lasted a few years. After releasing an album with a modified version of the band, and winning awards for that
as well, Jake went solo and signed with Sony Japan which helped take his music international where it became a massive success
overseas. It was in 2005 that he was able to take his music stateside through his own music label, and found incredible success
through his albums there. He has created ten albums that have been released in the US and ten albums that have been released
only in Japan, all of which have found great success.
Sometimes it takes time for people
to catch on to a good thing, as was definitely the case for Jake Shimibuko. While people throughout Hawaii, Japan, and even
the rest of the United States to an extent had become rabid fans of Jake's work, it wasn't until the advent of YouTube and
a random person posting a video of him playing that he got the attention he deserved. It was in 2006 that someone uploaded
a video of Jake playing George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" with the ukulele in his typical virtuosic style,
and it quickly went viral, garnering well above 12 million views as of today. This viral sensation spread across the world
and Jake quickly found himself with invitations to appear on television shows and work or tour with a myriad of respected
artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Jimmy Buffet, and more. It was that same year that Jake released his fifth US album, the aptly titled
"Gently Weeps", and it immediately peaked at #2 on Billboard's Top World Music Albums chart that year.
As is common with artists, Jake has taken part in a multitude of charities in an effort to help those in need,
but few have taken it to the level that he has. While Jake was a major spokesperson for the non-profit organization Music
Is Good Medicine, focusing on encouraging healthy lifestyles and connections to music through his extensive outreach programs
and performances, when this organization dissolved he decided to form his own charity. Known as the Four Strings Foundation,
this charity focuses on music education workshops throughout the country and also helps by providing instruments and tools
for music teachers and classes.
Seeing Jake Shimibukuro perform live is an experience that
you won't soon forget, as it's not often that you get the chance to see a virtuoso of this caliber come to a venue near you.
He has traveled the world and shared his musical abilities with anyone willing to listen, and has remained a musical celebrity
for years on end for his unrivaled skill. If you've never had the chance to see a brilliant artist take to the stage and unleash
their musical mastery live, then you owe it to yourself to make it out to one of Jake's upcoming performances! It's amazing
just how talented a single person can be with an instrument, and seeing him live feels equivalent to watching history being
made, as there have been few individuals if any that have been able to attain the level of skill with the ukulele that Jake
has. StubHub is your one stop shop for any and all of your ticket related needs, and don't forget that StubHub is the best
