Jars of Clay formed in Illinois at the Greenville College in the early '90s with singer/ songwriter Dan Haseltine, keyboardist Charlie Lowell and guitarist Stephen Mason. The three music majors studied within the CCM department, naming their group after a passage in the second book of Corinthians. The group started selling their self-released demo "Frail" following a trip to Nashville in 1994, and hasn't stopped recording since.
