Jason Mraz Background
Jason Mraz was born and raised in Virginia, where he grew up in an idyllic suburban neighborhood
in Mechanicsville. After high school, Mraz decided to further his education in the arts and moved to New York to attend the
American Musical and Dramatic Academy. After about a year and a half in New York, Jason Mraz headed back home and worked countless
odd jobs. He was enrolled and ready to attend Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, when he got the sudden desire to
pack up and road trip across the country. He headed west and ended up in San Diego, California, which he fell in love with
and decided to make his new home.
Once in San Diego, Jason Mraz immersed himself in the local music scene. He worked
as a roadie for the local band Elgin Park and also started playing in local coffee shops. Because of his catchy tunes and
easy-going performing style, Mraz quickly developed a loyal local fan base. He became a regular performer at a beach side
coffee shop called Java Joe's, and in 2001 he released his own acoustic record, Live at Java Joe's. The album featured some
of the songs that would later become some of Mraz's best hits, such as "You and I Both" and "1000 Things".
A year later,
Mraz signed to Elektra Records and released his debut studio album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, which featured his breakthrough
