About Jay Mohr

Jay Mohr is a multi-talented entertainer, having performing as an actor, comedian, radio host, and he is also a best-selling author. He was born in Verona, New Jersey, where he lived with his mother who was a nurse, his marketing executive father, and his two sisters, Julia and Virginia. When he was a child, Mohr dreamed of becoming a comic, and often was found goofing around in class and trying to make people laugh. He would eventually go on to fulfill that dream and even more.

When he was only 16 years old, he performed his first stand-up gig and began performing at local bars and college campuses to build up a following. After graduating from high school, he started pursuing comedy fulltime as a career, and at just age 20, he eventually landed a coveted spot on Saturday Night Live in 1993. During this time, he suffered from debilitating panic attacks and anxiety, the details of which are documented in his book "Gasping for Airtime: Two Years in the Trenches on Saturday Night Live." After Saturday Night Live, Mohr had a recurring role on the Jeff Foxworthy Show playing his brother. His first major film debut was his role as a sports agent in Jerry Maguire, and later in the romantic comedy film Picture Perfect.

Mohr went on to play a film producer in the television series Action, and he also appeared in Suicide Kings, Are We There Yet?, Small Soldiers, Go, Pay It Forward, The Groomsmen, and Playing the Heart. Several years later, Mohr became part owner, host, and executive producer of NBC's reality TV series Last Comic Standing, wherein standup comedians competed to receive a contract with NBC. The show was cancelled after three seasons, but was later renewed. Mohr added further TV roles to his repertoire, appearing on Ghost Whisperer, Scrubs, The West Wing, Gary Unmarried, and Outlaw.

In addition to his film and television career, Mohr has a considerable amount of radio work as well. He has appeared on the Jim Rome Show, Fox Sports Radio, and also hosts a daily talk show called Mohr Sports. Mohr also hosts his own podcast show called Mohr Stories.

Mohr wrote his second book "No Wonder My Parents Drank: Tales From a Stand-Up Dad," which describes in hilarious detail about the difficulties of parenthood. Following the release of the book, it was optioned by ABC for the development of a sitcom.

After dabbling in just about everything, Mohr is hitting the road again to return to his standup comedy roots.

Jay Mohr's Breakthrough

In 1993, Mohr landed a coveted role on Saturday Night Live, which was any comedian's dream come true. He joined the cast of other young comics, like Chris Farley and Adam Sandler. Audiences loved Mohr's celebrity impressions, with Sean Penn and Christopher Walken being his most famous. However, this time in Mohr's life was rife with anxiety, stress, and daily panic attacks. There was cutthroat competition among the cast members for airtime on the show, and Mohr became so anxious that he thought he might die on camera from a panic attack. He would later describe the experience as a "constant struggle to get on camera." Years later, Mohr wrote a memoir detailing this turbulent time in his life.
