Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Jazz music uses improvisation, blue notes, swing, call and response, polyrhythm and syncopation. Its roots come from Africa music and include sounds from spirituals, blues and ragtime. Musicians played in nightclubs to audiences who danced swing across the dance floors.
After originating in the early 20th century in New Orleans, Jazz spread to the rest of the nation where its sounds caught on like wildfire.
