The world-renowned comedian became a ventriloquist when he was just 10-years-old. His parents bought him a Mortimer Snerd dummy for Christmas with a how-to record album, and a star was born. Soon, Dunham was performing for audiences all over town, and gaining attention for his hilarious comedy act. His "characters" became a part of his identity. He even took pictures with them for the school yearbook. His dedication to his craft paid off. By the time he was in high school, he was performing 100 shows a year for local and big name clients. By the time he got to Baylor University, Dunham was already very well known. He even performed for General Electric CEO Jack Welch whom the comedian poked fun of in his act. After graduation, Dunham moved his "friends" to LA to pursue his comedy career full time. It was a difficult road, and he soon realized that ventriloquists didn't get the same respect as stand-up comics without props. He made his first Tonight Show appearance in 1988, but it would be a long 12 years before he would really get the exposure he needed to be a comedy star. In 2006, Dunham appeared in his self-produced Comedy Central Presents special, Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself. It was a huge hit and sold more than 2 million DVDs.
