Jeffrey LeVasseur grew up in Burbank, California in a musical family. His mother was singer and his father aspired to break into the music business. Jeffrey gave his first performance at the age of eight when he belted out Three Dog Night's version of "Joy to the World." He received a standing ovation and a music career was born. By the time he was in his teens, he was already playing in local bands on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. He changed his last name to Steele after the death of his father who had spent his life working in a steel mill. He got his first big break with the country band Boy Howdy in the early 1990s. He served as lead guitarist and vocalist and wrote the band's music. In 1992, the band signed with Curb Records and recorded three albums. In addition to seven chart-topping singles, Steele was also named Best Bassist and Best Male Vocalist by the California Country Music Association. He also won awards for his song writing skills. His first hits as a songwriter were "If You Love Somebody" by Kevin Sharp, "Unbelievable" by Diamond Rio and "Big Deal" by LeAnn Rimes. He also embarked on a solo career after Boy Howdy disbanded, and has remained a top-selling artist to this day.
