Jerry Jeff Walker Background
The iconic Jerry Jeff Walker hitchhiked
his way out of his native upstate New York ready to gain a firsthand view of the world. His thumb took him to places like
Key West and New Orleans. It was in New Orleans where he earned just pennies for singing his tunes. His nomadic adventures
also led him to strapping his guitar to the back of a motorcycle to crisscross Canada. And, he eventually ended up playing
in the same folk clubs in Greenwich Village that once hosted icons Ramblin' Jack Elliott and Bob Dylan. Jerry Jeff Walker
did all of these things and more way before he claimed star status. It was in the early 70s that Walker moved to Austin, Texas,
and transformed his image into that of a country rocker. He has been quoted as stating, "The first time I set foot in Texas,
particularly in Austin, I knew I was home." He joined the ranks of Asleep At The Wheel and Willie Nelson as one of the forefathers
of the globally famous Austin music scene. Since then, he has honored the songs of his contemporaries like Townes Van Zandt
and served as a wellspring and influence to next-generation musicians like Jack Ingram, Garth Brooks, Pat Green, Todd Snider
and Robert Earl Keen. He released a slew of records for popular labels Elektra and MCA before shedding the mainstream labels
and establishing his own Tried & True Music label in 1986. True to his nomadic roots, Jerry Jeff Walker can still be found
on stages across the country. Make sure you take advantage of seeing him in concert when he heads for a venue near you!
