About Jim Belushi

Born in Chicago, Jim Belushi attended Southern Illinois University and went on to become a member of Chicago's famous improvisational theater group, Second City. After honing his talents at Second City for three years, Belushi was cast in the television series "Who's Watching the Kids" and "Working Stiffs" in the late 70s, which is when his Hollywood career started to take flight. Belushi was thereafter featured on Saturday Night Live for two seasons, in addition to writing for the show as well. His most recent television success includes the ABC hit comedy "According to Jim," in which he stars, directs, and serves as executive producer and music composer for the show. The hit series was so successful that it was syndicated after its final season.

Belushi has also enjoyed a successful film career, appearing in Edward Zwick's "About Last Night" with Rob Lowe and Demi Moore, and a variety of countless other roles which demonstrate his extraordinary range as an actor. He even did various voice-acting roles in the 90s for popuar animated shows like "Rugrats," "Hey Arnold," "Pinky and the Brain," "Superman," and "The Mighty Ducks."

Although Belushi has found success in film and television, he has always remained true to his stage roots and continues to appear in on and off-Broadway shows. In 2011, he starred in Tony Award-winning director Doug Hughes' "Born Yesterday." Further establishing his place on the stage, Belushi also appeared in "Conversations With My Father," "Pirates of Penzance," and "Moon Over Miami."

Jim Belushi's talents are not just limited to film, television, and the stage; he is even an accomplished musician. Belushi and Dan Aykroyd performed together as The Blues Brothers, opening for the Rolling Stones in 2005 and playing at the SARS benefit in Toronto. Belushi also plays music with his own band, The Sacred Hearts, who have brought the blues to venues all over the country. In fact, The Sacred Hearts are the official house band for the famed House of Blues. Belushi has also recorded and released several albums. One such album, "Have Love, Will Travel," was recorded with Dan Aykroyd and reached the number one spot on the blues chart.

Jim Belushi has taken his talents to the world of writing as well, when he released his first book in 2006, titled "Real Men: According to Jim," which offers Belushi's humorous advice on everything from choosing friends to picking up women.

Belushi's prolific career doesn't seem to be slowing down, as his latest project is his collaboration with the Chicago Board of Comedy. Belushi and the Chicago Board of Comedy have performed their improvised comedy sketches nationwide, and Belushi also recently opened up a stand-up comedy club in Chicago, called The Comedy Bar.

Jim Belushi's Breakthrough

Jim Belushi has had many successes throughout his illustrious career, but it was his role in "Who's Watching the Kids" and "Working Stiffs" that really gave him his big break. From there, he went on to appear on Saturday Night Live, and also starred in a number of films throughout the decades, including "Thief," "Trading Places," "About Last Night," and Oliver Stone's "Salvador."
