Jimmy Buffett Background

Jimmy Buffett split his childhood between Mississippi and Alabama, so it's no surprise that this Southern boy grew up loving country music. Buffett played the trombone through grade school, but he didn't start playing the guitar until he was in college, allegedly so that he could pick up girls. While playing the guitar may have just been his ploy to meet women, he ended up falling in love with the instrument and he realized that he wanted to become a musician. So after graduating college, Jimmy Buffett picked up and moved to Nashville in order to make his musical dreams come true. In the late 1960s, Jimmy Buffett started to perform with a cover band called The Now Generation, but he knew his solo work suited him better than recording old songs. By 1970, Buffett had secured his first record deal and released his debut folk country album, Down to Earth. His first two albums flew under the radar, and achieved little commercial success, but this didn't stop Buffett from cranking out more tunes. After he moved to Key West in the early 1970s, Jimmy Buffett began to shape his famous beach-bum persona and worked on his next album, White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean. This album became Buffett's breakthrough hit, and it featured major hits like "Why Don't We Get Drunk (And Screw)". Suddenly, Jimmy Buffett had a huge fan base all over the country, and his excited fans would show up at his concerts wearing Hawaiian t-shirts and calling themselves "Parrotheads". His most iconic album, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes, really launched Jimmy Buffett into the spotlight, as it featured several of his biggest hits, such as "Margaritaville". Jimmy Buffett had become more than an iconic singer, he had become a brand. He used this to his advantage and opened two restaurant chains: Margaritaville Café and Cheeseburger in Paradise. In addition to his successful restaurant ventures, Jimmy Buffet also tested his hand at writing, and he has penned best-selling books. This talented entrepreneur and singer knows no bounds, as he continues to find success in everything he does. Of course, he does everything with his signature beachcombing style, and whenever he steps out on stage he will make you want to be holding a margarita and basking in the sun. While the '80s were undoubtedly Buffett's time to shine, he has remained one of the most popular live performers over the course of the decades. He can still sell out major venues all over the world, and his Parrotheads continue to flock to his shows, which are known for being some of the best concerts around.
