About the Artist
on it seemed as though Joan Sebastian's life might have taken a completely different path as he enrolled in seminary school
at the age of fourteen. After a few years he realized that his true calling was in music and he left the school to pursue
his musical dreams. Before becoming a popular musician, Joan Sebastian worked at a resort as an administrative assistant where
he was known to sing songs over the intercom. His first record Pedro Parrandas was released in 1974 under the name Figueroa
which was his family name before he changed his name to Joan Sebastian in 1977. The debut featured the song Descartada which
sold twelve thousand copies. He moved to Mexico City where he changed his name in 1977 and began pursuing his professional
music career in earnest. He soon signed to the Musart record label and has released more than fifty albums since then.
While working at the resort, Joan Sebastian had a chance encounter with Mexican actress Angelica
Maria. While the famous actress was waiting for her room she asked Joan Sebastian to sing for her. He performed six songs
for her during her second day at the resort. Angelica Maria was so impressed that she gave him the phone number of music producer
Eduardo Magallanes and urged Joan Sebastian to make a recording. Sebastian immediately packed up and moved to Mexico City
where he recorded his first album in 1974. In 1977 Joan Sebastian released his first album under his current stage name, El
Camino del Amor, which sold 127 thousand copies, cementing Sebastian as a true music star. It even had strong sales in South
America and the United States and all of his subsequent albums have sold even stronger.

on Tu y Yo. Joan Sebastian has won seven Latin Grammy Awards as well as four Grammy Awards.
