About John Mauceri
as John Francis Mauceri in New York, 1945, John Mauceri would go on to become one of the most influential American born musical
directors of his generation. He is possibly best known for his position as the Director of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra in
Los Angeles, which was created specifically to be headed by him in 1991 by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. He would
go on to conduct over 300 concerts and holds the title as the founding director of the HB Orchestra. Today, John splits his
time between homes in North Carolina and New York City. When not in either location he is often touring the globe directing
the world's most major orchestras and operas.
John Mauceri is also an established academic, having served for fifteen
years on the faculty at Yale University, and was a Berlin Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Berlin in 2000. John would
be noted for his ability to transcend national boundaries as he became the first ever American to hold musical directorships
in the UK and Italy, including a stint in Turin at the eminent Teatro Regio.
His other positions include the music directorship
of the Pittsburgh Opera, Chancellor of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, the Washington Opera at the Kennedy
Center, and the American Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. John Mauceri has both influenced and been influenced by similar
geniuses in his field, including Leopold Stokowski, Carlo Maria Giulini, and Leonard Bernstein.
has released a plethora of recordings since the mid 1980s, including his arrangements of some of the most influential and
well known musical pieces within music. These include The Threepenny Opera, Strike Up the Band, renditions of The King and
I, and The Great Waltz. John is best enjoyed, however, in the concert hall, where he is constantly innovating and trailblazing
in his academic yet fearless style.
John has been the recipient of countless awards and accolades, including a Grammy,
an Olivier, a Drama Desk, an Edison, multiple Emmys and multiple more Deutsche Schallplatten awards. The list of recognition
for Mauceri goes far beyond that of the usual ritzy televised glamour of the Grammys, and into much more esoteric ceremonies
such as the Edison Awards.
John is making waves globally as he has held positions that few Americans,
if any, have held before. This includes his post in Turin, Italy as well as the Scottish Opera in Glasgow, UK.
