Johnny was born in 1935 in Gilmer, Texas as the fourth of seven children. After the family moved
to San Francisco, Johnny's father began to notice his son's musical talents, so he went out and bought an old piano for twenty
five dollars so that his son could practice—and what a great investment that was! Johnny started singing t church and
school functions, and began to take voice lessons so that he could control and manipulate his voice and range. Because of
his athletic talent, Johnny attended San Francisco State University on an athletic scholarship, and he planned to study English
to become a teacher.
This plan of his didn't last for long, however, as he was soon spotted by Helen Noga, the co-owner
of two major music clubs in San Francisco. She became his manager when he was just 19 years old. Noga booked Johnny gigs in
various music clubs around San Francisco, but knew that she needed to get his name (and his music) out to wider audiences,
so she contacted George Avakian, a well known jazz producer, and he immediately became enamored with Johnny's voice and his
calm and attractive stage presence.
In 1956, Johnny was faced with an extraordinarily difficult decision: to pursue
music or athletics. He was invited to try out for the U.S. Olympic Team as a high jumper, but he decided to turn down the
opportunity to keep his recording appointment in New York City. With the support of his family, Johnny took a leap of faith
and chose music, and with a successful career spanning over almost 60 years, that one decision changed his life forever.

popular songs to date. From there, Johnny's career flourished and he became an international sensation. Over the course of
several decades, Johnny has honed his craft and can leave audiences breathless with just a few notes. Don't miss out on seeing
