Jonny Lang Background
When he was
only 12 years old, blues guitarist Jonny Lang went to a Bad Medicine Blues Band show and started gigging with the group. Eventually,
he became the frontman for the band. The band was renamed Kid Jonny Lang & the Big Bang and moved from Fargo to Minneapolis.
first album, Smokin', arrived in 1995. The independent release sold more than 25,000 copies. And as a regional hit, the LP
sparked a major-label bidding war, which resulted in a contract with A&M Records in 1996. Early the next year, his major
label premiere Lie to Me arrived when Lang was just 16 years old. The album landed at the top of new artist album charts,
and critics were bowled over by his discipline and maturity.
Wander This World followed in 1998, which evolved his brand
of blues into R&B and rock ballads. The album earned a Grammy nomination. The aptly named Long Time Coming came out in
2003 followed by Turn Around in 2006. With Turn Around, Lang claimed his first Grammy Award. In 2010, Live at the Ryman was
His sixth studio album, Fight For My Soul, was issued in September 2013. Of the album, Lang said, "The inspiration
for the songs on the record vary widely. Some are about personal struggles, some are focused on injustices I have seen. Some
are random fictional stories that hopefully can relate to people in some way that is a blessing to them. I've wanted to make
this album for a long time. Creatively, I think there is a lot more going on inside of me than I've been sharing on recordings."
