About the Artist

Judith Marjorie Collins was born in Seattle, Washington, and was a child prodigy of classic piano. In her teens, she picked up the guitar, and has yet to put it down. Since 1961 she has released more than 20 folk albums, many of which contained messages of activism. She has sung songs written by Joni Mitchell, as well as trying out more contemporary material with additional musicians. Regardless of what kind of music she's performing, Judy Collins sure knows how to collect a crowd. Check out tickets today to see Judy Collins live in concert at an upcoming show and come be part of the show. The very talented Judy Collins had a 23-year run with Elektra Records, which ended in 1984 when she made two albums for Gold Castle, followed by another successful run with Columbia Records. Identified as both an art song singer and a folksinger, Judy Collins has captured her audiences' attention for over four decades with her sweet soprano voice. A night with this Washington native will not only introduce you to her long-held beliefs, but will also bring you back to a time when musical messages carried significant weight with the American public.

Judy Collins began her foray into music influenced by the likes of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie and at first made some fairly straightforward folk songs. Her early albums did not receiver a lot of mainstream attention and in 1966 she released an album covering more established pop artists like Leonard Cohen and the Beatles among others. Her subsequent album, Wildflowers, displayed more of these pop sensibilities and produced hits like Since You've Asked and Both Sides Now which hit number 8 on the Billboard charts. The album also went on to give Judy Collins her first Grammy Award.

The Experience

You have been waiting for months for this night to come and finally as the lights lower you begin to see Judy Collins taking the stage. The crowd erupts in applause as Judy picks up her guitar and approaches the mic. A hush falls over the crowd as Judy Collins thanks them and launches into a fan favorite like Both Sides Now, Chelsea Morning, Someday Soon, Home Again, Secret Gardens, or Fires of Eden. The crowd once again erupts and sings and dances along to hits throughout the night. Always one to surprise the crowd, perhaps Judy Collins sprinkles in some new songs throughout the set, or decides to play some old standards or show tunes as she has been known to do. This is your chance to see one of the most legendary singer/songwriters of the past 50 years in person and she definitely exceeds expectations. Judy Collins has long had an ability to connect with the audience and seduce with her voice that is not always found in modern pop music. Do not miss the chance to see Judy Collins when she hits your town.

In addition to all of her other work, Judy Collins has appeared on several children's television shows including the Muppets and Sesame Street and provided the theme song for the television movie adaptation of The Wind in the Willows.
