About Justin Hayward
Hayward has been a stalwart performer since his teenage years, before he had the resources of equipment to be a touring musician.
As a youngster he saved every penny he had to eventually purchase his own guitar and amp, and immediately took to the local
music scene to perform covers of all his favorite artists around the English suburb in which he lived. His long and storied
musical history would see him enter and leave a variety of rock outfits, but his first break into the upper echelons of music
came when he was offered a songwriting deal with big time producer Lonnie Donegan. His prolific work ethic would pen a slew
of hit tracks and singles, eventually joining up with Marty Wilde and his husband-wife band The Wilde Three.
with The Wilde Three would be a fundamental experience for Justin, and would prep him for his next big step in the music scene
as a member of famous rock outfit The Moody Blues. He would take on a role as the lead guitarist and vocals of The Moody Blues,
an arrangement that would span decades and be the definitive beginning of Justin's long and accomplished career.
1974, after years of success, The Moody Blues took an extended hiatus, and Justin began to venture off into his own solo and
side projects, cementing himself as a talented musician in his own right and not just one part of The Moody Blues ensemble.
The seventies would see Justin's breakout into the mainstream as a solo performer, now alternatively working as a solo performer
and also as part of the now reunited Moody Blues. Despite the band not always being at full capacity, Justin continues to
tour with various band members as a solo artist and as part of a series of side projects.
first breakout single would be 1975's Blue Jays, a monumental success that was conceived and written during his break from
The Moody Blues. The album featured visionary producers Tony Clarke and 10cc, and was a noticeable departure from the sound
of The Moody Blues and established Justin as a solid solo performer. The album blew up all over the Billboard, including a
#16 position on the top 200 and a #4 position on the UK Albums charts. The album would be carried by the memorable and now
anthems "I Dreamed Last Night" and "Blue Guitar", both of which performed impressively in their own right as singles.
hasn't slowed down, as 2013 brought his seventh full length Spirits of the Western Sky, another impressive hit that charted
the top 100 in the UK, solidifying Justin as a decades spanning performer whose musical brilliance has not dampened one iota.
The album had a plethora of instant Hayward hits, including "In Your Blue Eyes", "The Western Sky", "Broken Dream", and "Out
Hayward has collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry,
including Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, and solo artist Rick Wakeman.
Justin has tried
his hand at composing and scoring, including contributing to BBC2's series Star Cops and the track "Eternal Woman" for major
motion picture She, amongst others.
