Justin Townes Earle Background
Justin Townes Earle grew up in South Nashville, Tennessee,
the son of maverick songwriter Steve Earle. He may share the same last name, a slight trace of his father's vocal style as
well as his father's Southern-fried origins, but there are a number of distinct differences in their musical approaches. The
younger Earle developed a penchant for music early on, serving as a member of the bluegrass/ragtime combo the Swindlers along
with loud rockers, the Distributors. He also toured with the Dukes, his dad's road band.
Eventually Earle became comfortable
in his own skin, creating his own unique brand of writing and performance style by mashing country, blues and folk music together. In
2007, Earle put out Yuma, a six-song EP. He then inked a deal with Bloodshot Records based out of Chicago and issued an album
coined The Good Life (2008). A year later, Earle shared the bill of The Big Surprise Tour, which included Old Crow Medicine
Show, The Felice Brothers, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Additionally in that year, Earle claimed an Americana Music Award
for the New and Emerging Artist of the Year category.
In 2010, Harlem River Blues arrived followed by the release of
Nothing's Gonna Change the Way You Feel About Me Now in 2012. He also made an appearance in an episode of Treme (HBO) with
his father.Other highlights of Earle's career include: contributing his rendition of Maybe Baby to the Rave On Buddy Holly
tribute album (2011); producing Unfinished Business for Wanda Jackson; garnering the Americana Music Award for Song of the
Year category for Harlem River Blues; performing at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival and the Newport Folk Festival.
