Kansas State Wildcats Football Schedule

As the college football season approaches, hopes are high for the Kansas State Wildcats and the excitement in Manhattan, Kansas is at an all-time high. The Wildcats finished in the middle of the pack in the Big 12 last season but look to be a much improved team this season and to make a big move up the conference standings. Bill Snyder's squad finished up spring workouts in an impressive manner and showed that the Wildcats' offense will be one of the best in the Big 12. Quarterback Jake Waters looked sharp during workouts and scrimmages and appeared to have a confidence that was not always present last season. He should have plenty of time to throw, operating behind a solid offensive line that returns several key pieces in B.J. Finney, Cody Whitehair, and Luke Hayes. Defensive end Ryan Mueller will be the leader on the defensive side of the ball and the unit as a whole looked considerably better in the spring than it had last season which should add up to more wins in 2014. Kansas State will need all the help they can get as they take on the best of the best in the Big 12 including games against Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor, and others.

One of the biggest home games of the season will be an out of conference game when the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Auburn Tigers of the SEC at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on September 18th. The Tigers are fresh off of a season that saw them finish second in the nation following a loss to Florida State in the National Championship Game and both sides stand to have a lot to prove by winning this game. The first Big 12 game in Manhattan takes place on Ocotber 4th when the Texas Tech Red Raiders come to Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Last season these two schools were neck and neck all year in the Big 12 standings with the Wildcats finishing just ahead of the Red Raiders at season's end and this should be one of the most thrilling games of the year. The home schedule comes to a close on November 29th when bitter in-state rivals the Kansas Jayhawks come to town. It is always an electric atmosphere when the Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks meet and this year should be no different as they battle not only for conference supremacy but also for bragging rights in the state. The Wildcats also have big home games against Texas, Oklahoma State, UTEP, and Stephen F. Austin in 2014 so pick out the games that are most appealing to you and get your tickets from StubHub.

The Team

Kansas State has long been one of the toughest college football teams in the country and in 2014 Bill Snyder and his squad will be looking to once again end up at the top of the Big 12 standings. Spring ball showed the offense to have improved by leaps and bounds and this was all without star receiver Tyler Lockett missing out on the workouts. On the defensive side Bill Snyder has recruited several key junior college transfers who will be looking to make an impact right from the start. Be sure to get out to Bill Snyder Family Stadium this year to help cheer the Kansas State Wildcats on to victory.

Kansas State Wildcats Big 12 Football

The Wildcats play in the Big 12 Conference, a traditional football powerhouse that annually features some of the most exciting games in all of the sport. The first Big 12 conference football game took place in 1996 and since 2012 it has played a nine game round-robin style regular season which determines a champion rather than using a championship game as some other conferences do. The traditional powerhouses in the conference include Baylor, Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State but every team in the conference is solid and capable of beating any other team. Baylor enter the 2014 season as the defending champs but this season should be as close of a battle as last year's was and anyone could end up on top of the conference standings.

Trivia

Kansas State has fielded a football team since 1896 and during that time have produced 11 consensus All-Americans. Including the 2014 NFL Draft the Kansas State Wildcats have had at least one player chosen in the draft in the last 21 years. Perhaps the most successful former Wildcat drafted during this time is Darren Sproles who has spent time with the San Diego Chargers, the New Orleans Saints, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
