Royals Update – Week of July 4

It's not exactly easy in the A.L. Central, one of the most competitive divisions in baseball, but the talented Kansas City Royals have showed time and again that they have absolutely no intention whatsoever and going quietly. Though it won't be an easy task to take down the Detroit Tigers, the Royals have shown that they're capable of taking a series from anybody when they play Kansas City Royals baseball, giving fans plenty of reasons for optimism as they look to wrap up the first half of the season on a high note and build some momentum for the second half.

One of the brightest points of the season so far has been Alcides Escobar, the speedy shortstop who has been hitting at a high clip and showing that he's one of the American League's premier base-stealers as well. With Escobar, the Royals have been putting some serious pressure on pitchers and catchers all season long, though they also have some major batters as well who have made them one of the toughest teams in the league to get out so far. Left fielder Alex Gordon has been living up to his potential this season, leading the Royals in several prominent categories, and they've also received boosts from Omar Infante, Salvador Perez and Billy Butler as well.

On the bump, both Yordano Ventura and Jason Vargas both have very good ERAs at the midway point of the season, giving the Royals a chance every time they take to the hill. James Shields has also shown some flashes of brilliance as well, leading the team in wins so far this year and providing a major spark just about every time the Royals need one. Put it all together and the Royals have a promising team filled with strong vets and talented youngsters, which is a great formula as they look to continue being a major factor in the A.L. Central throughout the rest of the regular season.

2014 Kansas City Royals Schedule

If you're looking for action, you're definitely in the right spot, as the Kansas City Royals are always in the middle of one great game or another throughout the course of the regular season, and that's not likely to change any time in the near future. Kansas City will be hosting some of the best teams in baseball this season at Kauffman Stadium, and fans will be knocking down the doors to see this young team hit the field. It's a great season to head out to the stadium to see this talented group try to make a push for the playoffs, providing endless opportunities to see the best of the best clash on the diamond. But even though home games are always absolutely filled with great moments, it can also be just as exciting to see the Royals on the road, as you'll get a completely new perspective on your favorite team.

Of course, the Royals will have to play well against divisional opponents in 2014 if they're going to be a legitimate contender in the American League Central race. The Detroit Tigers won the division last season, so the Royals will be looking to tame them when they come to Kansas City this time around. The Tigers boast a potent lineup that is difficult to hold in check, so a lot of pressure is sure to be on the young Royals hurlers. If Kansas City can show that they're up to the challenge from a team of this caliber, it could go a long way to showing the rest of the American League that they've officially arrived as contenders for the American League Pennant.

Another team that the Royals will be looking to show a thing or two are the Cleveland Indians, the other team to finish ahead of Kansas City last season. The Tribe made it to the postseason after finish just a game behind Detroit, so this is certainly no team to be taken lightly. The Royals young sluggers will be looking to put a big serving of hurt on the Cleveland pitching staff each time the Indians come into Kauffman Stadium in 2014. With a team loaded with playmakers who can do a little bit of everything on the diamond, this is a team that you definitely don't want to miss out on as they look to pile up the wins and make a move at the top of the A.L. Central.

Kansas City Royals Team Info

The Kansas City Royals play in the American League Central division of Major League Baseball, a division that also features the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. The Royals had their best season in some time in 2013, finishing with a winning record and with a hold on third place in the AL Central standings. The Royals are looking to rise in the ranks of their division in 2014, and their young core is going to have to make strides this season for that to happen. The Royals have loads of potential just waiting to be tapped, and this could be the season that they break through and make it to the postseason for the first time in many years. These days, the Royals have big-time talent both at the plate and in the rotation, with guys like Alex Gordon, Billy Butler, Jason Vargas and more leading the way as they round into form and give their divisional foes a run for their money.

That's why the more games people attend, the more they get into the game itself, finding a new, deeper love for baseball. The Royals have some great games on the schedule this season, so make sure to join in on the fun in a season guaranteed to be loaded with towering homers, spectacular catches and nail-biting moments that will have fans buzzing all over town.

Kansas City Royals History

The Kansas City Royals franchise was founded in 1969. The team originally played their home games at Municipal Stadium, but moved to their current location at Kauffman Stadium in 1973. The Royals have won the American League pennant twice in their history, once in 1980 and again in 1985. The 1985 Royals were able to win the World Series, giving the organization its lone World Championship. Guys like George Brett, Hal McRae, Bo Jackson and more have all dominated while playing for the Royals, and this is a franchise that tends to have some major talent from year to year if their history is any indication.

Kansas City Royals Trivia

Former Royal George Brett is considered to be one of the best players to ever suit up for the franchise, as he was one of the better hitters of his generation. What was the highest batting average that Brett posted in a single season as a member of Kansas City?

The answer is an amazing.390, which Brett posted in 1980. Though hitting even.300 is usually considered a good way to get your name in discussion for Cooperstown, Brett took his game to the next level and went down as one of the very best left-handed hitters of all-time.

The Fans

Fans of the Kansas City Royals love to head out to the stadium to take in a game when the Royals are hosting a division rival or a quality team from another division. These fans cheer their hearts out every time the Royals are threatening to score a run, and it's a contagious atmosphere that is loads of fun as well. Kauffman Stadium obviously has plenty of great fans on a regular basis, but you'll also find some Royals colors on the road, giving you 81 more different opportunities to head out and join in the biggest games of the Royals' season.
