Kansas Jayhawks Football Schedule

As the Kansas Jayhawks prepare for their 2014 season there is an excitement in the air in Lawrence that is palpable. The Jayhawks have struggled during their first two seasons under head coach Charlie Weis, but that was to be expected. Entering their third season under Weis with a new offensive coordinator things are looking up for the Jayhawks. Spring ball provided reason for excitement as Montell Cozart impressed and has emerged as the starting quarterback for KU. Cozart should benefit from the presence of transfer Nick Harwell at wide receiver who was another standout on the offense and showed that he can make some game changing plays when he gets the ball. A veteran secondary will also help the Jayhawks improve on defense as will star linebacker Ben Heeney. All of this improvement should add up for more wins for a Jayhawks team that only won one conference game last season. Playing in the Big 12 is never easy and the Jayhawks will once again go up against some of the best teams in the country including Texas, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Oklahoma, and others, but KU is a vastly improved team that will be more than capable of scoring some big upsets in 2014.

The Kansas Jayhawks kick off their 2014 home Big 12 schedule on September 27th when the Texas Longhorns come to Memorial Stadium. These two teams have faced off against one another for decades and the Jayhawks could take a big step forward by beating their long time rivals early in the 2014 season. On October 11th the Oklahoma State Cowboys come to Lawrence to take on the Jayhawks. The Cowboys have been near the top of the conference standings in recent years and beating them will not be easy but the Jayhawks will need to score as many home wins in the conference as they can this season if they are looking to begin to establish themselves as contenders in the Big 12. The home schedule comes to a close on November 15th when the TCU Horned Frogs come to Memorial Stadium. This is definitely a winnable game for the Jayhawks and all Kansas fans will want to be on hand to help cheer the home team on to a victory in their final home game. Kansas also has home games against Southeast Missouri State, Central Michigan, and Iowa State in 2014 so there are plenty of great games on the schedule to choose from, all you have to do is pick out your favorites and buy the tickets right here in StubHub.

The Team

Times have been tough for the Jayhawks in recent years, but it appears as though fans can expect a big turnaround in 2014. Coming out of spring ball the Jayhawks appear to be benefiting from the experience they have at nearly every position and are settling into coach Charlie Weis' system entering his third year at the helm. Teams can always expect to undergo a period of adjustment when they have a new coach and a young team and the Jayhawks have moved past that and should no longer find themselves at the bottom of the Big 12 standings. You will wan tot be there right from the start as Kansas football begins to leave its mark on the Big 12.

The Experience

Outsiders may think of Kansas as a basketball school but anyone who attends a Jayhawks football game in Lawrence immediately becomes aware that KU football evokes just as much passion and excitement as the school's basketball team, if not more. Cheering for your alma mater or favorite school and watching the student athletes lay it all on the line for school pride and a shot at playing at the next level is one of the most intense feelings in all of sports. College football fans plan their entire Saturday to celebrate everything that comes with the game. These hard core fans get up early and head off to the stadium parking lot for tailgating before the game. Once inside the stadium, fans join together to make as much noise as possible and help the home team leave with a victory. It is incredibly thrilling to be in the crowd when the star player takes the ball into the end zone for a big win. When you head out for a Kansas Jayhawks football game you are sure to experience all of the excitement that comes with a top tier college football game. The parking lot at Memorial Stadium will be filled with people gearing up for the big game, grilling up some grub and sipping on a few beverages as well. It's all one big lead up to the main event, which is the game itself. There is simply no better way to spend a day off than at a college football game cheering and celebrating with thousands of other hard core fans.

Kansas Jayhawks Big 12 Football

The Jayhawks play in the Big 12 Conference, a traditional football powerhouse that annually features some of the most exciting games in all of the sport. The first Big 12 conference football game took place in 1996 and since 2012 it has played a nine game round-robin style regular season which determines a champion rather than using a championship game as some other conferences do. The traditional powerhouses in the conference include Baylor, Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State but every team in the conference is solid and capable of beating any other team. Baylor enter the 2014 season as the defending champs but this season should be as close of a battle as last year's was and anyone could end up on top of the conference standings.

The history of Kansas football dates all the way back to 1890 and the program has a 6-6 record in bowl games. Their most recent trip to a bowl game occurred in 2008 when the Jayhawks trounced the Minnesota Golden Gophers 42-21 in the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona. If all goes according to plan the Jayhawks could find themselves invited to take part in another bowl game following the conclusion of the 2014 season.
