Kasabian Background

Kasabian was formed in 1997 in Leicester, England while Sergio Pizzorno, Tom Meighan, and Chris Edwards were attending Countesthorpe Community College. After bonding over their shared love of music, the students decided to form a band, which they initially called Saracuse. Edwards worked as an engineer at Bedrock Studios in Leicester, so the band often recorded their tracks and demos in this professional space, something almost unheard of for bands just starting out.

They released their debut EP in 1998, which along with their numerous live performances, helped Kasabian gain recognition. After changing their name to Kasabian, the band continued to write tracks and record songs. It wasn't until 2004 that they released their eponymous album, which gained such critical acclaim that the band scored an invitation to perform at the world famous Glastonbury Music Festival. Their third single, "Club Foot", made its way onto the UK Singles Chart, and from then on Kasabian was known as one of the best up and coming bands on the indie music scene.

Since breaking out onto the music scene, Kasabian has earned numerous awards, nominations, and slots on major TV programs. In 2010, Kasabian won a Brit Award for Best British Group, an NME award, and several more prestigious honors! There's no doubt that this new millennium has brought about countless fun and unique new bands who continue to change the course of rock, and Kasabian is definitely one of these trailblazing bands. With their mix of classic rock and more modern electronic and psychedelic rock, Kasabian has earned a reputation for being one of the best new bands in the business. Make sure that you take advantage of the opportunity to hear this critically acclaimed band perform live as they head across North America this fall—grab your tickets to one of Kasabian's upcoming shows on StubHub today!

Every album has met with great commercial success, with all being certified platinum or multi-platinum in the UK. Their fifth album, 48:13, is scheduled to drop in June 2014.

Some of Kasabian's hit singles include "Fire", "Days Are Forgotten", "Empire", "Cutt Off", and "L.S.F (Lost Souls Forever)". The name Kasabian was inspired by Charles Manson.

Band member Christopher Karloff was reading about Charles Manson when the name "Kasabian" stuck with him. Kasabian is a very common Armenian surname that means butcher or slaughterer. The other band members agreed that the name was cool, so they changed their name to Saracuse to Kasabian.
