Katey Sagal grew up in California in a show-biz family. Her three younger siblings were also actors, and her parents both worked in films. She was exposed to the arts at a young age, and knew it was for her. She attended the California Institute of Arts and began acting in the early 1970s in TV movies and other television projects. Her first big role was that of a newspaper columnist on the show Mary, starring Mary Tyler Moore. This role led to her most famous role to date-playing Peg Bundy in the hit sitcom Married¿with Children. The show ran for 11 seasons, and made Sagal a household name. After the show ended its run, Sagal found success on several other television and film projects, including her latest role as Gemma Teller Morrow on the FX drama series Sons of Anarchy. And while she was becoming a film and TV star, Sagal was also honing her skills as a musician and building a reputation for being a knockout performer. Even though Sagal is most well-known for her roles in film and television, she actually started her career in show business as a singer and songwriter. In the early 1970s, she worked as a backup singer for Bob Dylan and Tanya Tucker and was a member of Bette Midler's backup group The Harlettes in the late 70s and early 80s. She also contributed vocals to Gene Simmons self-titled solo album and the song "Loose Cannons," which was the theme song for a film starring Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd. She released her first solo album in the early 90s, and her second in 2004.
