Keith Urban Background
Urban was born in New Zealand, but his family moved to Queensland, Australia when he was still a toddler. One day, Urban's
father placed an ad in his store window for a guitar teacher, and soon enough Keith Urban was learning to play the guitar
with the help of his instructor, Sue McCarthy. As soon as he started to get the hang of the guitar, Urban began entering talent
shows and competitions in his area. Because of his love for performing, he also got involved in theater, finding an interest
in acting as well as music.
Keith Urban started to make a name for himself in the Australian music scene in the mid
1980s, as he made regular appearances on the Reg Lindsay Country Homestead TV program and other radio and television programs.
After earning enough recognition in Australia, Urban signed to EMI Australia and got to work on his debut album. In 1990,
Urban released his self-titled debut album and went on tour with Slim Dusty a few years later. Realizing that he needed to
get out of Australia in order to further pursue his musical career, Urban packed up and moved to Nashville in 1992. Almost
immediately, Urban found success in the U.S, co-writing songs for artists like Toby Keith and the Raybon Brothers. He formed
a band in 1997 called The Ranch, which scored two charting hits, "Walkin' the Country" and "Just Some Love". In 1999, Urban
released his self-titled debut album in the U.S., which featured hit songs like "It's a Love Thing" and "Your Everything",
which made him a huge hit in the American country music scene. In 2001, he won an Academy of Country Music Award for Top New
Male Vocalist, and more and more country music fans started to pay attention to this phenomenal new artist.
Keith Urban has achieved incredible commercial and critical success, scoring numerous best-selling records and singles as
well as several awards and accolades. This phenomenally talented singer-songwriter also knows how to put on a knockout performance
