Growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida, Kendra Morris always knew that music would be a part of her life. She was already entertaining her parents friends with her powerful voice at the age of three, and when she was just eight, she used her karaoke machine to record her voice on cassette tapes from her closet "recording studio." After attending a performing arts high school, the young musician decided that musical theater-which she had been studying-was not what she wanted to pursue. She enrolled half-heartedly in college, but soon flunked out due to lack of interest and late nights singing in bands. With the help of her father, she learned to play guitar, which gave her a medium in which to write the songs that had been clouding her brain for many years. She moved to New York City in 2003 with her newfound skill and started an all-girl band called Pinktricity. The band didn't last long, but it gave Morris the push she needed to start her solo career.
