2015 Kentucky Oaks Tickets

Kentucky Oaks Tickets

The Event

Horse racing fans across the world have May 2nd circled on their calendar, and that is because on that day the 2014 Kentucky Oaks will be run. This is one of the biggest horse races of the year, and fans will flock to the famous track at Churchill Downs to see these amazing horses barrel down the track toward the finish line. Seeing this race is an experience in itself, as there is a lot of fanfare that goes along with the actual race. Horse racing holds a special place in the hearts of many folks, especially in the state of Kentucky, where racing fillies is a tradition that is taken very seriously.

The Kentucky Oaks is a horse race that features some of the top three-year-old fillies in the country and covers a mile and a quarter of track. This event is annually held on the Friday before the prestigious Kentucky Derby, and is seen as a bit of a tune up for that race. The winner of the race is awarded a sum of $600,000, a winner's trophy and a garland of lilies. This floral arrangement has become known as the "Lilies for the Phillies. This is one of the most incredible races each and every year, and just being there is something that any horse racing fan will remember for the rest of their lives.

The Sport

Horse racing is a sport that dates back to the days of ancient Greece, and the spirit of competition has endured all these years. These horses really are athletes themselves, and some of the most impressive ones at that. The three biggest races of the year are the Kentucky Derby, the Belmont Stakes and the Preakness, a trio of competitions that are known as the Triple Crown of racing. The Kentucky Oaks is not quite of the caliber of those three races, but it is on the next tier below them and still considered to be a prestigious event in horse racing.

The Experience

If you've never been to a prestigious horse race like the Kentucky Oaks, then this is the year to change that. This race has been run for more than 100 years, and being there in person for the running is one of the most exciting things you can imagine. The stands at Churchill Downs are sure to be packed to the brim with fans that love to watch these majestic animals tear down the track with the finish line in their sights. When these amazing horses come barreling down the home stretch and there are two fillies running neck and neck you'll see why some people consider this to be the most exciting sport around. It's always an incredible time when you head out to the track.

The Kentucky Oaks began its long and storied fixture in thoroughbred racing in 1875, at the Louisville Jockey Club. From more humble beginnings, the Oaks has grown to a horse racing event second only to the Kentucky Derby. Attendance at the Kentucky Oaks exceeds that for some of the other, perhaps more well-known races, the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes, and the Breeders' Cup. This makes securing your horse racing tickets imperative if you want to be in on the betting, the glamour, and the thrills of a great horse racing event that captures the imagination of racing fans all over the country. Just don't wait too long to make your plans, as this is a race that always has plenty of great moments.

The Fans

If you've never been to a big horse race in person, then you've never seen the passion that the fans of this sport exude at the track. The atmosphere at a race like the Kentucky Oaks is amazing largely because of the excitement coming from the fans. These folks love to head out to the track to see these amazing horses run in person. It doesn't get any better for a horse racing fan than being there when their favorite horse is the first to cross the finish line, and that's a big reason that people all over the country regularly attend races big and small. For a race steeped in history like this one, it's bound to attract a lot of people each and every year, and you can be a part of it when you head out to the event this time around.

Churchill Downs is probably the most famous horse racing track in the world. However, it has not always been known by that name. What was the name of the track when the first Kentucky Oaks was held in 1875?

The answer is the Louisville Jockey Club. At that time, and up until 1890, the race was an extra quarter mile longer than it is today. Along with the Kentucky Derby, the Kentucky Oaks is the longest running sporting event in the United States.
