About Kid Cudi

Scott Mescudi, aka "Kid Cudi" is a hip-hop artist hailing from Cleveland, Ohio. Kid Cudi spent his formative years living in Shaker Heights and Solon, but after he began rapping in high school, he moved to Brooklyn to pursue his musical career. He lived with his uncle while in the city, and began working at the famous hip-hop clothing store, BAPE. After a short while, his uncle kicked him out before he could arrange another living situation for himself, and the two were no longer on speaking terms. When his uncle died unexpectedly after the incident, Kid Cudi had deep regrets about never apologizing, which led him to write the song, "Day 'N' Nite."

It was in 2008 when Kid Cudi released his first mixtape, titled A Kid Named Cudi, which included the single "Day 'N' Nite." The mixtape captured the attention of his future mentor, Kanye West, who later signed Cudi to his GOOD Music record label later that year. Kid Cudi went on to assist Kanye with co-writing his hits, "Heartless," "Welcome to Heartbreak," and "Paranoid."

After several television appearances, collaborations, and further showing his chops as a songwriter, Kid Cudi released his debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day on September 15, 2009, which sold 104,419 copies in just the first week, and reached number four on the charts. "Day 'N' Nite" was also featured on this album as the lead single, which proved to be a smash hit. "Day 'N' Nite" peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, and was ranked number 15 by Rolling Stone as one of the Best 25 Songs of 2009. His second single from the album was "Make Her Say," which featured a sample of Lady Gaga's "Poker Face," as well as performances by Common and Kanye West. These successful hits were nominated for three Grammy Awards in 2010.

On November 9, 2010, Kid Cudi released his follow-up album, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, which was certified Gold by the RIAA. The album debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, and sold 169,000 copies in its first week. With its hit singles "Erase Me" and "Mr. Rager," Complex magazine named it one of the classic albums of the last decade in 2012.

In addition to his regular albums, Kid Cudi has also collaborated with a number of artists, and also dabbles in side projects. In February of 2012, he released an alternative rock album under the moniker WZRD, along with producer Dot da Genius. The singles "Brake" and "Teleport 2 Me, Jamie," helped the album debut at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart, with 66,000 copies sold in the first week. Later that year, he collaborated with other artists under the GOOD Music label to release the compilation album Cruel Summer. The album produced the four singles, "Mercy," "Cold," "New God Flow," and "Clique," and debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 205,000 copies in the first week. The album also enjoyed worldwide success, charting in the top 10 for Australia, Canada, Switzerland, and the UK.

Heading back to the studio, Kid Cudi released his third album Indicud in 2013, and was the first to not be part of the "Man on the Moon" series. The album featured a slew of other performers, including the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Too Short, ASAP Rocky, and even Michael Bolton. Backed by four popular singles, "Just What I Am," "King Wizard," "Immortal," and "Girls," the album debuted at number two on the charts, Kid Cudi's highest-charting album yet.

Kid Cudi's most recent studio album Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon was released in late February 2014, and has already been met with rave reviews.

Kid Cudi's Breakthrough Album

Kid Cudi's breakthrough album Man on the Moon: The End of Day took his popularity to the next level. The album received three Grammy Award nominations, and the single "Day 'N' Nite" was certified Platinum in the U.S. Kid Cudi gained even more exposure during his tour with Lady Gaga, and by the end of the year, the album made it on various music critics' lists for "best album of the year."
