About Kid Ink
Kid Ink would make inroads into the music world at a young age, starting
in after school programs that would pique an interest in production and beats. With all star idols such as Timbaland and Pharrell,
Kid Ink would make his start as a record producer that would later segue itself into a career in the rap game. He would initially
perform under the moniker Rockstar, mixing and rapping over his own mix takes that would gain widespread popularity and interest
on the music blogosphere. Rockstar would sign onto independent label Tha Alumni Group, changing his name to Kid Ink and getting
to work on his next mixtapes that would feature vocal and musical support from independent artists such as Roscoe Dash and
Meek Mill, and guest spots from artists such as Sean Kingston, Bow Wow, 2 Chainz, Tyga, and Cory Gunz. He would get a special
feature in XXL magazine as a promising up and comer, put in the same class as now household names Macklemore, Hopsin, and
By 2012 the Kid Ink footprint would be reverberating all across the hip hop community after dropping his
full length debut. He would continue dropping mixtapes, and soon make the transition to RCA Records that enabled his music
to connect with a wider audience. His first RCA hit would be an EP released shortly after signing, which has built up maximum
anticipation for his forthcoming RCA full length. Today, Kid Ink is constantly at work, whether it be on road or in the studio,
putting out cutting edge beats and ill rhymes with each and every new mega hit track.
Ink's independent label debut Up & Away would drop in 2012, lighting up the US music charts with #20, #3, and #2 showings
on the Billboard 200, R&B and Rap charts, respectively. With nearly fifty minutes of unadulterated rap genius, the album
would make a big name for Kid Ink on the music scene and was created under the production tutelage of masters such as DJ Ill
Will, Cardiak, Jahlil Beats, and Ned Cameron. The album spawned six hit singles, including "Time of Your Life", "Lost in the
Sauce", "Roll Out", "Is It You", "Hell & Back", and "Drippin'".
The much anticipated follow up My Own Lane would
see release two years later, and would garner Kid Ink's first #1 chart position on the US Rap charts. The album would also
climb to the #3 spot on the Billboard 200 and #2 chat on the US R&B charts, making it his most successful album to date.
DJ Ill Will and J Grand would receive executive producer credits for the record, which spawned the hits "Show Me", "Iz U Down",
and "Main Chick".
He's called Kid Ink for a reason. With a fully tatted up body and face, Kid Ink
has been visiting tattoo parlors since the age of sixteen. Amongst his many inks he's gotten portraits of family members and
a full scale of a tiger.
