The current Las Vegas professional baseball franchise started in 1983, when the Spokane Indians moved to Vegas and renamed themselves the Stars. The name changed in 2001 to the 51s, a reference to Area 51, a famous military base about 80 miles north of the city which is believed by UFO fans to inhabit aliens. This is where the 51s get there logo design, which depicts an egg-shaped alien head.
