America was formed in 1970 when all the members finished high school and wanted to get serious about their music careers. They were promoted throughout the U.K. and were soon signed by Warner Brothers. America's self-titled debut album was released in 1972 and got them a lot of attention in the U.K. Their popularity spread overseas and soon they were topping charts in the U.S. as well.
