Losing his edge? Never. But James Murphy is calling it quits, taking LCD Soundsystem out for one last show at Madison Square Garden. Few bands have had as much impact on the indie-rock scene, nor united so many critics behind them. It's hard not to love the band's pounding jams and Murphy's hilarious, sweet and sad lyrics, so pick up concert tickets and wish him well.
James Murphy is the hipster's hipster, but he also knows not to take himself too seriously. LCD Soundsystem's breakthrough track was "Losing My Edge," a rambling, increasingly desperate confessional from a guy who had all your favorite band's early EPs long before you did, but just can't keep up with the kids. Mixing ironic humor with heartfelt sadness and joy over three LPs, LCD Soundsystem became a favorite in the indie-rock scene.
Will Daft Punk be playing at James Murphy's house when LCD Soundsystem wraps up their final tour? It's a distinct possibility. But fans will be content to get Murphy and the band to themselves one last time when they come to Madison Square Garden in New York.
