About Lee Greenwood

Country musician Lee Greenwood was first introduced to music when he started singing in church. After honing his musical talents during his formative years, he decided to join a band. By 1969, he had joined the Chester Smith Band, and he later worked with another country musician by the name of Del Reeves. Lee Greenwood finally got his big break when he was discovered in 1979 by Larry McFaden, and he was later signed to the MCA label. His debut album "Inside Out" was released in 1982, and it was eventually certified gold. The album's single "It Turns Me Inside Out" broke into the top 20 of the country charts, and "Ring On Her Finger, Time on Her Hands" peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles. Following in the success of his debut album, Lee Greenwood followed up with "Somebody's Gonna Love You," which was also certified gold and peaked at number 3 on the US Top Country Albums chart. The album's single of the same name became Lee Greenwood's sixth hit, and also managed to claim the number one position on the charts, where it spent a whopping 13 weeks.

Although he has a number of successful albums, Lee Greenwood is perhaps best known for his song, "God Bless the USA," which appeared on his album "You've Got a Good Love Comin'." This album was also certified gold, and the single "God Bless the USA" became a sensation. It reached the number 7 position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart upon its release, and it was later played at the 1984 Republican National Convention. The song became even more popular when it was played during the Gulf War in the early 90s as a way to boost American morale and support for the war. The song got a resurgence of popularity after the September 11 attacks, and was thereafter re-released as a single again. Upon its re-release, "God Bless the USA" peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2001.

Lee Greenwood's Breakthrough Album

Lee Greenwood was pretty much an immediate success with the debut of his first album, "Inside Out," which went gold. The success of his debut album set the stage for his later success as he went on to release several more gold records, with many singles that fared well in the charts. His career took an unexpected surge in popularity after the September 11 attacks. His famous song "God Bless America" had been used once before to encourage national pride in American, and it would continue to be played heavily during the US invasion of Iraq.
