Linkin Park Background

Many high school students decide to form garage bands as teens, but few of these bands ever achieve more than a modest applause at the school's Battle of the Bands. Linkin Park, however, is an exception. High school friends Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, and Rob Bourdon started to take their aspirations of a musical career very seriously, and recruited Joe Hahn and Dave Farrell to join their band, which they called Xero. Ultimately, the band received no interest from record labels and was deemed a failure, and it wasn't until Chester Bennington came on board that the group established their own distinct sound.

Bennington brought his hip-hop influenced vocals and post-grunge vibe to the forefront of the band, making them an incredibly unique and irresistible new band. The group changed its name to Linkin Park, solidified a record deal with Warner Bros., and released their first album, Hybrid Theory, whose title was influenced by the new creative chemistry hybrid between Shioda and Bennington. Hybrid Theory blew rock fans away, and it sold almost five million copies in its debut year alone. Just like that, Linkin Park was one of the biggest names in rock music, and they had garnered fans all over the world with their fantastically contagious nu-metal tunes. Since the release of their smash hit debut album, Linkin Park has sold over 60 million albums around the world and has even collected a couple of Grammy Awards, confirming their reputation as one of the greatest nu-metal groups in rock history.
