Long Island Blackbirds Basketball Schedule

The Long Island Blackbirds have a proud history of college basketball and have been dominating the Northeast Conference in recent years despite uncharacteristically finishing 4-12 in the conference last season. This year the Blackbirds should be one of the most fascinating teams in the conference, as they lost assist machine Jason Brickman but have several other key players returning and could once again be back in contention for the league title. At the start of the season there is a lot of excitement and speculation surrounding Jack Perri's team, but it is not hard to imagine them working their way to the top of the Northeast Conference standings and possibly make their way back to the NCAA Tournament where they could make some serious noise in March. Be sure to get your tickets for all of the Blackbirds' biggest games from StubHub as soon as possible so you can get the best seats in the house to cheer on Long Island.

In hoping to accomplish their goal of making a return to the NCAA Tournament this season the Blackbirds will have their work cut out for them as they take on many of the best teams in all of college hoops. The Long Island Blackbirds have non-conference home games atWellness Recreation and Athletic Center at Long Island University against the New Hampshire Wildcats, the Lehigh Mountain Hawks, the New Jersey Tech Highlanders, the Florida International Panthers, the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, and the Sacred Heart Pioneers. Once Northeast Conference play gets underway the Blackbirds will host the Mount Saint Mary's Mountaineers, the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, the Robert Morris Colonials, the St. Francis PA Red Flash, the Wagner Seahawks, and the St. Francis NY Terriers. According to preseason predictions the Blackbirds should be at or near the top of the Northeast Conference standings all season long and bring excitement to all of their biggest fans all season long. During their mission to leapfrog teams like St. Francis, Central Connecticut State, Robert Morris, and Bryant the Blackbirds will need every last bit of home court advantage they can get from all of their biggest fans at Wellness Recreation and Athletic Center at Long Island University.

Long Island Blackbirds Basketball History

The Long Island Blackbirds may not be well known to casual basketball fans but they have a history of success that many other programs would happily trade for. The Blackbirds won a Premo-Poretta National Championship in 1936 before the NCAA Tournament was held and have won six conference regular season championships, six conference tournament championships, and have been to the NCAA Tournament six times. Fans of the Long Island Blackbirds are some of the most dedicated in the country and regularly fill Wellness Recreation and Athletic Center at Long Island University on game days.

The Experience

There's nothing like being in the stands when the game is on the line, so ditch the couch, brush off the potato chips and get ready to see a game you won't soon forget. College basketball has plenty of great games on the schedule each and every season, from plenty of top-tier regular season battles to Tournament clashes that you'll have to see first-hand to believe. These are some of the best amateur athletes in the entire world, though that's something that you need to see for yourself to truly appreciate. Will you be there when your favorite player pulls up for a game-winning three that will have everyone jumping out of their seat in unison? There is nothing quite like being there with thousands of your fellow fans as the Blackbirds look to pile up the wins and give their fans another memorable season, though that's not something that you're going to figure out sitting at home wondering what the atmosphere of the big game is like.

Long Island Blackbirds Basketball Conference

The Long Island Blackbirds compete in the Northeast Conference which is always one of the more competitive conferences in the country seeing as it typically only gets one team into the NCAA Tournament. In recent years Long Island and Robert Morris have been the two most dominant teams in the conference. In fact, either the Blackbirds or the Colonials have won the conference every year since 2008. However, with both teams experiencing massive change prior to the 2014-2015 season the Northeast Conference this seems to be one of the most up for grabs conferences in the NCAA. The Northeast Conference is made up of ten teams: the Mount Saint Mary's Mountaineers, the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, the Robert Morris Colonials, the St. Francis PA Red Flash, the Wagner Seahawks, and the St. Francis NY Terriers. If you are looking for highly competitive college basketball featuring some of the best athletes in the country you have come to the right place in the Northeast Conference.

Trivia

Former Long Island head coach Clair Bee, who coached the Blackbirds in the Thirties and Forties, has the highest winning percentage in NCAA history.
