Loretta Lynn Background

Loretta Lynn was born in a small Kentucky town to a coal miner, which would later serve as inspiration for her hit song "Coal Miner's Daughter". She was just 15 years old when she married Oliver "Doolittle" Lynn, whose job led them to move to Washington state. Although the early years of their marriage were highly tumultuous (largely due to infidelity on Doolittle's part), Loretta stayed with her husband, and their relationship became the source of inspiration for many of her songs. When Loretta turned 21, her husband bought her a cheap guitar, encouraging her to learn how to play the instrument. She spent the next few years teaching herself how to play the guitar, and after she had become quite skilled at it, her husband also started to encourage her to try to become a singer.

In 1960, Loretta Lynn finally wrote and recorded her first song, "Honky Tonk Girl". This single drew serious attention from the country music community, and soon Loretta was accepted into Nashville's country music scene, where she was able to cultivate her career. Throughout the 1960s, Loretta Lynn experienced significant success in country music, earning countless charting songs like "Coal Miner's Daughter", "You Ain't Woman Enough", and "Fist City". Most of her songs dealt with blue collar women's plights, such as cheating husbands and their mistresses. Because some of her songs were a bit heavy for the conservative country radio stations, nine of her songs were banned from the air. This didn't slow Loretta down, however, and she continued to crank out chart-topping tunes that earned her the name "The First Lady of Country Music". She even took to writing books, and her autobiography, Coal Miner's Daughter, was turned into an Academy Award Winning film.

In addition to being honored in film, Loretta earned countless awards and nominations for her music. She has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. This Grand Ole Opry legend has definitely made her mark on country music, and there's no doubt that she is one of the greatest songwriters and recording artists in the history of music. Her life has served as the storyline for an Oscar winning film and her records have gone on to sell millions of copies around the world. Loretta Lynn's life has been nothing short of fascinating, but it is her music that everybody will remember for years to come. Now you have the chance to see this incredible country superstar perform live in concert, and you definitely don't want to miss out!
