Dodgers Update – Week of August 8th

With the Dodgers and the Giants both battling it out for supremacy in the N.L. West, it doesn't get any better than this, as Dodgers' fans are anticipating a riveting final couple of months to the regular season as fans anticipate another playoff berth for their beloved home team. The Dodgers took a little while to get going, but the talent eventually rises to the top in Major League Baseball, which is part of the charm of a long season. Thanks to a power-heavy lineup and arguably the best starting pitcher in the game, the Dodgers have the type of team that definitely isn't going to go quietly the rest of the season.

More than anything, however, the Dodgers' chances might end up coming down to the powerful left arm of Clayton Kershaw, who is turning into a bit of a legend around Los Angeles. Though Kershaw has already won two Cy Young Awards, he's actually having his best season to date and hasn't lost a start since the end of May. With Kershaw dominating on a regular basis, the Dodgers look formidable not just for the regular season but for the postseason as well if they can keep it going in the right direction.

Offensively, the Dodgers aren't exactly lacking either, as Yasiel Puig continues to show that he's a remarkably complete hitter despite his youth and Adrian Gonzalez has been an absolute rock in the heart of the order. Add in Dee Gordon, who seems determined to literally run away with the stolen bases title, and the Dodgers can do just about anything on the diamond from one night to the next. The Dodgers won't be able to coast to a playoff berth considering the competition from the Giants and the other top teams in the National League, but with the Dodgers' season really coming together, it's hard not to be excited to be part of the Dodger faithful coming down the home stretch of the season.

Dodgers Update – Week of July 4

It's been a bit of a battle this season, but as fans around Major League Baseball know quite well, the cream always rises to the top. After looking up at the San Francisco Giants for much of the year so far, the Dodgers have been playing very good baseball and now find themselves neck-and-neck with their N.L. West rivals for the divisional crown, putting them right back in the heart of the playoff race in the National League. With the Dodgers starting to come on strong heading into the All-Star break and fans eager to see if they can make yet another run at the postseason, anything can happen from here.

A major reason for the success of the Dodgers, to the surprise of no one, has been young budding superstar Yasiel Puig. With his canon arm and uncanny ability to hit even the top pitchers in the league, Puig has launched himself into stardom in his first full season in Dodger blue. Through 77 games for Puig, the power-hitting right-hander is leading the team in average, on-base percentage and hits, which is sensational for a young hitter still getting used to Major League Baseball pitching. Puig has also been a major run-producer as well, placing him amongst the league leaders in that category as well.

But the Dodgers have much more going on than just Puig, as Adrian Gonzalez has once again been an absolute rock in the heart of the order and Dee Gordon has given them a major spark at the top of the lineup. Gordon reached 40 stolen bases in less than 80 games this season, making him far and away the most dominant base-stealer in the entire league in the process. Of course, the Dodgers also get to turn the ball over to Clayton Kershaw as well, and the sensational lefty is having another Cy Young-caliber season. With other starts like Zack Greinke and Josh Beckett also showing some major signs of dominance, the Dodgers have the balance to do some major damage from now to the end of the season.

Dodgers Update – Week of June 6

Though the Dodgers haven't completely put it all together quite yet, the beautiful thing about the Major League Baseball season is that the cream eventually rises to the top – something the Dodgers did last year and are hoping to do once again this season. The Dodgers are hovering around.500 at the moment, but they've also put together some very impressive series wins and are right within striking distance of the playoffs once again this season. Even if the Giants and the Rockies are showing that they're going to give the Dodgers plenty of competition in the N.L. West, the Dodgers have proven once again that they have one of the most dynamic rosters in the game.

And a big reason for that, as Dodgers' fans already know, is Yasiel Puig, who isn't just living up to expectations at this point but he's in the conversation for National League MVP. Puig has dazzled in the field, making some of the most spectacular, highlight-reel defensive plays in the league this season, though that's also just the tip of the iceberg. With a batting average well over.300 and an on-base percentage well over.400, Puig is looking much more like a veteran at the plate than a rising superstar, and he's flashed his signature power as well, leading the team in run production while holding his OPS over 1.000.

With Puig showing his star-level capabilities in all aspects of the game, other key players like Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez have helped keep the offense clicking despite Matt Kemp getting off to a relatively slow start this season. It also helps that Dee Gordon is swiping just about every base that he can at this point, with Gordon easily leading the entire league in stolen bases. With the Dodgers looking to turn the corner and start winning a few more home games as they look to make their move in the N.L. West, Dodgers' fans know the team is in good shape heading towards the halfway point of the season.

Dodgers Update – Week of May 2nd

Following an impressive start to the season, the Dodgers head into May looking to hunt down the San Francisco Giants at the top of the N.L. West. The Dodgers wrapped up the first month with a solid 15-12 record, putting them right in the thick of the hunt for the playoffs in the early going thanks to a well-balanced roster that proved they can pitch and hit in equal measures. With three series wins against the D-backs and one against the Padres, it's been so far so good in the N.L. West, even if they've struggled in head-to-head battles with the Giants so far.

Leading the way for the Dodgers has been Adrian Gonzalez, who tied for the N.L. lead in homers with eight during the first month of the season. Gonzalez hasn't just been closing his eyes and swinging for the fences either, as he also held a.317 batting average and drove in 24 RBIs in April. The only reason why Gonzalez isn't leading the team in batting average at this point is because of Dee Gordon, who has been a pleasant surprise for Dodgers' fans so far this season. Though many fans knew of Gordon's potential heading into the season, few anticipated watching Gordon bat.340 in April while stealing a league-best 13 bases.

On the mound, the Dodgers have also gotten a big boost from Zack Greinke, who is back in top form after going 5-0 with a 2.04 ERA through the first month of the season. With that type of firepower, the Dodgers are very hopeful heading into May, where they'll play the Twins, the Marlins and the Nats on the road before coming home to take on the Giants and the Marlins in the middle of the month. With one of the most potent rosters in the league, the Dodgers look like they could be in an exciting battle for the divisional crown with the Giants all season long.

2014 Los Angeles Dodgers Schedule

The Los Angeles Dodgers are ready to hit the field and defend their title as reigning National League West Champions this season, giving fans plenty of reasons for optimism as they look to pile up the wins and make it all the way to the Fall Classic. The Dodgers have one of the most talented teams in Major League Baseball, which always brings the fans out in droves to Dodger Stadium for each and every home game throughout the regular season. The Dodgers will have a lot of tough matchups at home this season, which makes for a bevy of great opportunities for Dodgers fans to get out to the ballpark to see some excellent baseball being played by some of the best players in the game today.

It really all comes together when they take on their divisional rivals, however, and division matchups are sprinkles all over the season to give you plenty of opportunities to join in the action. One of the teams to look out for on the schedule will be the D-Backs, another talented team that will be looking to swing their way all the way to the top of the standings. The Diamondbacks boast a lineup filled with top players that can crush the ball into the seats at a moment's notice. Dodgers fans will need to come out and show their support for their favorite team whenever a tough team like Arizona comes to Los Angeles.

The San Francisco Giants, meanwhile, might have had a down year last season, but don't expect that to happen again. With one of the best pitching staffs in the game, the Giants are always tough to defeat, and the Dodgers know that well. From divisional matchups to interleague road games that will have you glad that you hit the road to cheer on the Dodgers, 2014 should be another exciting season of action loaded with sprawling catches, eye-popping homers and nail-biting finishes that will have everyone talking around town.
