Los Angeles Kings Playoff Schedule

The Los Angeles Kings are ready to hit the ice in the playoffs and make another run at the Staley Cup. The Kings have one of the most talented teams in the National Hockey League, and they'll be looking to perform against all of the best teams in the league throughout the regular season. If they can notch one of the eight best records in the Western Conference, they'll be headed to the postseason, where anything is possible in the NHL. Last season the Kings were able to reach the postseason and catch fire for the second time in three years, and they rode that wave of momentum all the way to winning the Stanley Cup. The postseason is the most exhilarating time of the NHL season, and last year's playoff run by the Kings really proved that to be the case, as the team played in three seven-game series before reaching the Stanley Cup Finals. The team will be ready to make another deep run in the playoffs this season once the postseason rolls around, and only the luckiest of fans will be able to see the action live and in person.

Los Angeles Kings History

The Kings have been playing in the NHL since 1967 and although they have traditionally had more struggles than triumphs they have had their fair share of success in recent years including winning their first Stanley Cup two years ago during the 2011-2012 season. Some of the best moments in the Seventies came behind the goal tending of Rogie Vachon, while the Eighties saw some success behind the vaunted Triple Crown Line that featured Marcel Dionne. In the late Eighties the Kings pulled off a major coup getting the legendary Wayne Gretzky from the Edmonton Oilers in 1988 and teaming him up with future Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille. The Kings became incredibly popular with these teams but only reached the Finals once where they lost to the Canadiens. After Gretzky left the Kings struggled fro nearly 20 years from 1994 until 2011 during which time they won only one playoff series. Of course this was all turned around with the 2012 Stanley Cup victory and another championship in 2014.

The Kings play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NHL is made up of seven teams: the Anaheim Ducks, the Calgary Flames, the Edmonton Oilers, the Los Angeles Kings, the Phoenix Coyotes, the San Jose Sharks, and the Vancouver Canucks. The Pacific Division was formed in 1993 and is currently the only division in the NHL without an Original Six team. The most recent Stanley Cup Champion to come out of the division is the Los Angeles Kings who won it in 2014. Three other Pacific Division teams have won the championship: the 1995-1996 Colorado Avalanche, the 1998-1999 Dallas Stars (who are no longer in the division), and the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks.

Fan Experience

Everything is ratcheted up a notch during the NHL playoffs and the further teams advance the more intense the competition becomes. If you thought regular season NHL games were exciting, just wait until you experience an NHL playoff game live and in person. The postseason features the best teams in the National Hockey League and, in turn, the best players in professional hockey. Seeing these players giving it everything they've got on the ice is an incredible experience that should not be missed, even by the casual hockey fan. Once you're there, you'll understand why so many people are clamoring to get to playoff games each and every time the postseason rolls around.

Los Angeles Kings Trivia

What were the original colors that the Los Angeles Kings wore?

The Kings' original colors were Forum Gold and Purple, not unlike the uniforms of the National Basketball Association's Los Angeles Lakers, but the color scheme was switched to black and silver just before the arrival of Wayne Gretzky.

Los Angeles Kings Fans

Hockey fans in general are some of the most passionate sports fans around, but nothing quite matches the fanaticism surrounding the NHL playoffs and fans of the Los Angeles Kings are some of the most dedicated and vociferous fans in the entire NHL. On game day at Staples Center the fans file in and take their seats and that is when the cheering and chanting begins. As the clock winds down closer and closer to the dropping of the puck the crowd works itself into a frenzy. Finally both teams are ready for face off and the excitement really begins. Thunderous, bone rattling hits, incredible displays of speed and agility, powerful slapshots, and tremendous saves set the arena on fire for the following three periods of world class college hockey. By the time the final buzzer sounds your voice is hoarse and your palms are stinging from clapping and giving high fives and you will already be planning a return trip.
