Louisville Cardinals Football History
Back in the day, it
was Johnny Unitas who helped build out the program, but other incredible players like Deion Branch, Ted Washington, Bruce
Armstrong and many more also came through the program as well, providing plenty of big-time thrills over the seasons as the
Cardinals established a premier college football program. Over the years, since the program was first founded in 1912, the
Cardinals have won more than 450 different regular season games and have won eight different conference titles, including
two from the Missouri Valley, three from conference USA and three more from the Big East. With the Cardinals looking to do
some more damage in the ACC, there has never been a better time to be a part of the Louisville fanfare.

Did you know Johnny Unitas had to work in construction after he was cut by the Pittsburgh
Though Cardinal fans definitely understood the special player they had when Unitas played in college, his
game took a little while to translate to the next level. After getting drafted late in the NFL draft by the Steelers, they
would eventually cut him and Unitas was forced to work construction to support his family. Eventually, however, Unitas would
get another shot when he had a successful tryout for the Baltimore Colts, and the rest turned out to be history as Unitas
established himself as one of the greatest players in the history of the NFL.
