About Loverboy

Loverboy formed over three decades ago in Calgary, Canada. Vocalist Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean would meet via the Calgary music scene, where they would eventually recruit Doug Johnson, Matt Frenette, Ken Sinnaeve and Scott Smith. Loverboy's success was written on the walls when they would open for such legendary acts as Kiss, in 1979 - before they were even signed to a record label. The band would come from rough beginnings, getting turned down initially by all major record labels in the United States.

In early 1980 they would sign on with Canadian Columbia Records and release their first album which would debut with over 700,000 albums sold. The next nine years would be a non stop whirlwind of performing, writing, and recording where the band would release 5 albums and play close to a thousand shows. They would share the stage as equals with the biggest acts of the decade including Journey, Bob Seger, Cheap Trick, ZZ Top, Kansas, Def Leppard, and Foreigner.

After a three year hiatus, the band would get back together in 1992 to hit the road again with Bon Jovi. Since then, Loverboy has been touring non stop and has released four more full length albums.

Previous Hits

Loverboy's 1980 self titled debut album would catapult them into the limelight, carried by the single "Turn Me Loose" which would define their sound for a decade. Loverboy would eventually sell over 4 million copies worldwide. Their sophomore album Get Lucky, released in 1981, would cement Loverboy's position on global musical stage, getting 4 stars from Allmusic Media Network. "Working for the Weekend", the number one single from the album, would become an instant classic and one of the most iconic songs from the decade. Along with the single "Jump", Get Lucky would sell over 4 million copies within the United States alone.

With no signs of slowing down Loverboy would release Keep It Up, carried by the hit "How Girls In Love". Keep It Up would hit number 7 on the US charts and eventually go double platinum. 1984 would see Loverboy record "Nothing's Gonna Stop You Now", the theme song for the United States in the 1984 Summer Olympics, proving once again that music really can transcend borders. In 1985 the band would go on to record Lovin' Every Minute of It, again going double platinum and topping charts across the world. Loverboy would again cross media boundaries as they recorded "Heaven In Your Eyes" for the 80's blockbuster Top Gun.

In June 2012 the band released their latest album Rock 'n' Roll Revival, which would be Loverboy's triumphant return to recording new material after a long lull. The album would still hold true to their original hard hitting style but take them into a direction that reflects their maturity and growth as musicians.

Citing creative differences, Loverboy broke up for a short period of time over creative differences and the departure of Doug Johnson. They would reunite for a charity event years later, which would snowball into a full fledged cross country tour.

During their breakup, guitarist Paul Dean would start his own solo project with debut album Hardcore. Hardcore would be a success and feature many different musicians, including Loverboy drummer Matt Frenette and well known rocker Bon Jovi.

Loverboy's cultural influence spans many mediums and several decades. They have been featured in popular TV shows such as Saturday Night Live and South Park, video games such as Grand Theft Auto and Saints Row, and hit movies such as Zoolander and Crank.

The Loverboy Concert Experience

Throughout all the trial and hardship the band has experienced over their 35 year run, they've always held that the greatest thing about being part of Loverboy has been performing. The bands enthusiasm and energy shines brightly during each and every performance. Whether they're playing their groundbreaking first ever single "Turn Me Loose" or playing their megahit "Working for the Weekend", Loverboy takes you back to the 1980s when rock was something bigger, better, and stronger than it is today. With only thirteen total shows for 2014, seeing Loverboy live is an opportunity you do not want to miss. Buy your tickets today!
