There are several big games heading to Tiger Stadium this season, and Tigers fans know to get tickets well in advance to all the big matchups of the year before they're sold out!

LSU Tigers Football Conference

The LSU Tigers began their tenure in college football as an independent team from 1893-1895, thereafter joining the SIAA from 1896-1921 and settling in the Southern Conference from 1922-1932 before joining the SEC in 1932 as a founding member. The Tigers have been a big force in the SEC for decades, winning 14 conference titles to date and even claiming three national titles, in 1958, 2003 and 2007. The Tigers' national title in 2007 made the Tigers the first BCS team to win multiple national championships, and it seems like it is only a matter of time until the Tigers post a repeat performance in the postseason. That's not to say the LSU football team doesn't have any competition in the SEC, however. As part of the SEC's Western Division, the Tigers have their work cut out for them every year against division rivals like the Auburn Tigers, Alabama Red Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies. Bowl games that fans can expect to see the LSU Tigers partake in include the Sugar Bowl, Outback Bowl, Cotton Bowl Classic, Liberty Bowl, Gator Bowl, Music City Bowl, Capital One Bowl, Chick-fil-A Bowl and more.

LSU Tigers Football Rivalries

Every single one of the SEC's Western Division teams can be considered a big rival of the LSU Tigers, and especially because each of these teams is a powerhouse team in NCAA football. The Tigers have special rivalries with certain teams like the Arkansas Razorbacks, which compete against each other every year for the Golden Boot, a gold trophy in the shape of the states of Arkansas and Louisiana. The Tigers and Razorbacks have been competing for the Golden Boot since Arkansas' arrival in the SEC in 1991, with the rivalry heating up more and more with every season. The Tigers also have a deep-rooted rivalry with the Florida Gators that goes back decades, as both teams were founding members of the SEC. The Tigers and Gators are two of the winningest teams in the conference, combining for a total of five national championship titles. Another SEC rival of the Tigers is the Ole Miss Rebels, and these two teams face off every year for the Magnolia Bowl Trophy. Outside of the SEC, the Tigers are a historic rival of the Tulane Green Wave, as the two teams played for the Tiger Rag every year until the mid-'90s. Although they don't play each other annually anymore, the Tigers and Green Wave will always be fierce rivals.

LSU Tigers Football NFL Players

There are several names that will go down in the history books for the LSU Tigers football team, and one of the greatest players to ever go through the ranks of the LSU football program is Billy Cannon, the school's only Heisman Trophy winner to date. Cannon was an All-American for LSU in the 50s before going on to play for the AFL's Houston Oilers and Oakland Raiders in the '60s, as well as the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs in 1970 before his retirement. Cannon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, where he resides along with other former LSU stars like Gus Tinsley, Ken Kavanaugh, Abe Mickal, Doc Fenton, Tommy Casanova and Jerry Stovall. Cannon's No. 20 jersey was retired by the Tigers, as was No. 37 for Tommy Casanova.

LSU Tigers Football Trivia

No. 18 isn't just for Peyton Manning -- in fact, at LSU, it's not for the legendary football player at all. There is a longstanding tradition at LSU with the No. 18 football jersey, which started in 2003 when the jersey was worn by quarterback Matt Mauck, who helped take the Tigers to the national championship game. Mauck passed down his No. 18 jersey when he graduated to Jacob Hester, and Hester thereafter took the Tigers to a 2007 national championship title. Thus, the No. 18 jersey became known around LSU for being a symbol of success, and every season the Tigers vote a player to wear the No. 18 jersey for that season. Who will wear No. 18 next season? Find out at an upcoming Tigers game.
