Mac Miller Background

Hailing from Point Breeze, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Malcolm "Mac Miller" McCormick, set his sights on worldwide fame when he was young. And at 17, he achieved it. When he was a teen, he partied and even got arrested, but once hip-hop permeated his life, it was all he obsessed about. Learning how to play a number of different instruments, like the drums, guitar, piano and bass, since the tender age of six, Miller founded the Ill Spoken along with Beedie, an area emcee. Their mixtape, How High, was met with success and included Rated R and DJ Diggz. The pair served as the opening act for other acts, including Soulja Boy. Miller went out on his own with mixtapes The Jukebox: Prelude to Class Clown, The High Life and But My Mackin Ain't Easy. Rostrum Records signed him on in 2010. He released K.I.D.S. under the label in the late summer of 2010. Miller cultivated more experience and contacts with every mixtape he churned out. In November 2010, his single, "Knock Knock" arrived. His EP, On and On and Beyond, followed in the spring of 2011. The efforts paved the way for hisfirst album, Blue Side Park, which hit the streets in November 2011. You dropped in 2012, followed by his latest effort, Pink Slime (2014).

About his music, Miller said, "My overall goal is to be able to speak and connect with the world. It's a pretty big goal to set for myself, but with what I'm seeing right now and the path that I'm going on, I think that I can do it because I have experience with all different backgrounds and genres of music. I'm trying to have it where your straight trap dudes are listening to [my] music, as well as your straight hip-hop heads and people who listen to the Beatles, and Led Zeppelin, and the Sex Pistols."
