        An opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, Macbeth the opera first appeared in 1847 when Verdi first began writing the music for the Italian libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, along with help from Andrea Maffei, based on Shakespeare’s play. The first performance was in 1847 at the Teatro della Pergola in Florence. After twenty years the music was revamped, and included a ballet, which has remained the preferred performance.
