About The Artist

The Manhattan Transfer first began in 1969 when singers Tim Hauser, Erin Dickins, Marty Newlson and Pat Rosalia decided to start an a capella singing group. After adding good friend Gene Pistilli, the group began looking for a label that would help them be true to their unique sound. They found this with Capitol Records and began recording their first album. They released their first album Jukin' in 1971. The group got the inspiration for their name from the 1925 novel, Manhattan Transfer, by John Dos Passos. Even though the original group decided to go their separate ways, Hauser was committed to keeping the group alive. He formed a second group and developed a cult following after performing live at Max's in Kansas City. The new group signed with Atlantic Records and their first album, The Manhattan Transfer was a huge hit. It was such a hit in fact that the album was showcased on CBS's hour-long variety show. The Manhattan Transfer went on to win 10 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Vocal Hall of Fame in 1998.

During the 1980s, the group did so well that their album was second only to Michael Jackson's Thriller. They continue to perform to enthusiastic audiences around the world with their unique blend of fusion jazz, pop and doo wop. They have ventured into the world of jazz in recent years and have performed with famous orchestras and vocal groups all over the world. Fans can't seem to get enough of this group, and you won't want to miss a single moment! Manhattan Transfer Trivia

Even though Manhattan Transfer has been around for many years, they still know how to utilize the technology of today to bring their work to the world. In 2013, original TMT member, Erin Dickins, started a Kickstarter campaign to fund a project that would reunite all of the original members of the group to re-record their most popular song, "Java Jive." The project was successfully funded in just a few short months, and the group began recording soon after.
