Maples Pavilion

Maples Pavilion History

Since it first opened back in 1969, Maples Pavilion has been a major part of the Stanford University campus, helping to build a great tradition as the Cardinal continue to solidify themselves as powerhouses. Both the men's and women's hoops programs are loaded with superstar-level talent on a regular basis, making Maples Pavilion one of the best places to be if you're looking for top-tier college basketball. Once you're there taking part of a big game featuring a prominent school like Stanford, you'll see that it doesn't get any better than watching college basketball live and in person.

After undergoing a major renovation in 2004, the facility now boasts a 29,000 square-foot concourse, state-of-the-art concession, new playing floor, great seating, top notch center-hung scoreboard with video and replay capability and an even more exciting game day atmosphere than ever before. It hasn't just been about game day, however, as it's held plenty of other great events as well, including a memorable 2010 speech given by none other than the Dalai Lama. That was a tough act to follow but the Maples Pavilion has continued to bring engaging events to fill in the calendar outside of the big hoops days, making it always a good idea to keep an eye on the calendar of events.

Maples Pavilion Events

Whether you are on your way to the arena to take in a community event, volleyball tournament or epic basketball game, a newly renovated indoor venue like this has great views of the action no matter where you find yourself. There is nothing like knowing you've got the perfect spot to watch the game day action unfold right before your very eyes. A look at the calendar of events and you might see a big game one week, a speaking engagement the next and something else entirely different not long after that, providing a little something for everyone and making it one of the places to be in the Bay Area for live entertainment.

Maples Pavilion Trivia

Maples Pavilion Experience

Some of the most unforgettable games in college basketball have happened on the Maples Pavilion courts. The very first one took place on January 3, 1969, when the team lost to BYU. Luckily they made up for it the next night with a win. The Pavilion is considered one of the best facilities in the country and routinely hosts NCAA championship events. If you should find yourself seated in one of the courtside rows get ready for some very enthusiastic cheering, you're in the midst of the "6th Man." With that type of reputation, it's not hard to imagine that this is about as good as it gets for college basketball, providing plenty of incentive to get out and see the action for yourself once again this season.
