About Marc Anthony
Marc Anthony is hard to pin down as he is accomplished at many things. He is an actor, record
producer, television producer, fashion designer and singer-songwriter. While born in the United States of America, he is Puerto
Rican and grew up in the East Harlem area known as Spanish Harlem in New York City. In his younger years, he was a session
vocalist for freestyle and underground house music acts. He later became a back up vocalist for Menudo, a Puerto Rican boy
band from the 1970s, and the Latin Rascals. The first record that Marc Anthony produced was freestyle on Bluedog Records in
1988. He spent time helping other artists as a writer and producer. He started to collaborate with Little Louie Vega and the
two opened for Tito Puente at the Madison Square Garden in New York. As he matured as an artist, he moved away from the freestyle
to music closer to his heart, salsa. Initially, Marc Anthony was reluctant to completely embrace becoming a salsa artist,
but changed his mind after finding inspiration in a fellow artist. He started releasing such albums in the early to mid 1990s.
It was quite quickly that he started to break through, after signing with RMM Records, an independent Latin music label. Marc
Anthony became a sought after Spanish singer/songwriter. While on RRM, Marc Anthony won an award from Billboard as the Hot
Tropical Artist of the Year. The album "Todo a Su Tiempo" was nominated for a Grammy Award, having sold more than 800,000
copies. It hit gold status in both Puerto Rico and the United States. The album included songs like "Te Conozco Bien," "Se
Me Sigue Olvidando" and "Te Amare." The next album, "Contra La Coriente," led to televised specials and more.
for Marc Anthony
Marc Anthony had a significant breakthrough when we transitioned from a freestyle artist to a Latin
artist on RRM. Marc Anthony joined Jennifer Lopez on the album "On the 6" in an effort to both garner interest for both artists
in the Spanish and English-speaking communities while crossing over. This opportunity also enabled Marc Anthony to transition
to a non-Spanish speaking audience, after working with new producers like Rodney Jerkins, Dan Shea, Walter Afanasieff and
Cory Rooney. While working with these producers, he created a hit with the US Top 5 single, "I Need to Know." One of his new
songs, "You Sang To Me," was on the soundtrack for the movie, "The Runaway Bride," starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere.
Following these successes and definitive breakthrough, Marc Anthony released another Latin album, which has since been certified
