The Mexican folk ensemble, Mariachi Vargas, comes from a long line of
history that spans over 100 years. The music includes a number of instruments like harps, guitars, trumpets, violins, guitarrons
and vihuelas. Mariachi Vargas is by far the best of the best touring mariachi bands and a good opportunity to experience a
sound that represents not only a rich musical history but also a the colorful culture of Mexico. The music is one that will

was started in 1897 and has gone through various iterations of members and talent that have continued to pass along the mariachi

Gaspar Vargas started the first Mariachi folk ensemble under the full title "Vargas de Tecalitlan." Mariachi
Vargas celebrated its 100 anniversary since founding in 1997 and it still continues to stay strong and keep to its roots.
There are presently 5 generations of mariachi with a few consistent aspects- the instruments. The mariachi band always consists
of 2 violins, 2 trumpets, 1 guitarron, 1 guitar, 1 vihuela and sometimes 1 harp. There are no exceptions and this has carried
on through the years since the 19th century. There is also a minimum of 12 members, as there is often a 13th member added
to play the harp.
The band currently includes: Jose "Pepe" Martinez, Federico Torres, Miguel Angel Barron, Daniel Martinez,
Enrique De Santiago, Gustavo Alvarado, Jose Martinez Jr., Julio Martinez, Steeven Sandoval, Alberto Alfaro, Arturo Vargas,
Andres Gonzalez and Fernando Velasquez.
