Though most know Marry Poppins through her portrayal by Julie Andrews in the 1964 Disney musical, the character actually has its origins in a series of children’s novels written by P.L. Travers. The first, titled simply Mary Poppins, was published in 1934. They were published during several decades, with the last appearing in 1988.
