In the fall of 1996, Matchbox Twenty released their premiere album, Yourself or Someone Like You. At first the band was
written off as one of the many post-grunge era bands that floated through the American pop music scene halfway through the
'90s. The critics were heard but fans were much louder. As Push continued to heat up the charts, many still assumed they were
just a one-hit wonder. But Yourself or Someone Like You continued to deliver the hit singles like Long Day, 3am and Back to
Good well into 1998. Although the album never truly made an imprint on the charts, record sales were a different story. Millions
of copies were sold, and by 1998, it had gone platinum five times. By the dawn of 2000, 10 times. So here they are almost
20 years later, still touring and still cranking out the hits.
Matchbox Twenty transcended decades with their talent to marry the structure and sentiment of '70's arena rock with '90s
hard rock, making a winning combination. As a staple of modern rock, Top 40 and adult alternative, Matchbox Twenty has also
achieved success through their appeal to a wide range of audiences. To learn more about Matchbox Twenty's concerts and live

At the helm of Matchbox Twenty is singer/songwriter Rob Thomas. As an Army brat, he spent his childhood bouncing between
his mother's Florida house and grandmother's house in South Carolina. At 17, he drifted around the Southeast singing in various
rock bands before he settled down in Orlando, Fla. He eventually met bassist Brian Yale and drummer Paul Doucette and the
trio played in several local bands before officially founding Matchbox Twenty. After recording a collection of demos, the
band was able to book gigs throughout the U.S. Their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You, came after the band signed
to Lava. The album came out under the radar but with airplay from influential radio stations, their breakthrough hit, Push,
made its way to MTV. It turned out the band's debut album was only the prologue to their success story!
