Matthew Knight Arena History
The first thing that hits you when you attend an Oregon Ducks basketball game or a
concert at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene is how quintessentially Oregon the venue is. Kilkenny Floor at Matthew Knight Arena
is adorned in a wooden mosaic that represents the tall firs found all over this beautiful state. The venue is named after
Matthew Knight, son of Nike co-founder Phil Knight, an avid Oregon Duck fan, alumni and donor to the university. Matthew Knight
died tragically at the age of 34, and Phil Knight and his family, who has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to University
of Oregon athletics, secured much of the funding for the new state of the art multi-purpose facility. Name after a passionate
Ducks fan, Matthew Knight Arena was designed to celebrate the culture and traditions of the University of Oregon, while providing
a modern and beautiful venue for the enjoyment of the students and community of Eugene.

The Pac 12 Conference has quickly become a powerhouse in both football and basketball, rivaling the SEC and
Big 10. No school characterizes this new found power quite like the University of Oregon Ducks. Their football team has been
in the Top 5 in the polls for many years now, playing BCS bowls and sending multiple players to the NFL every season. In the
last few years, the Ducks basketball program has followed suit, recruiting some of the best players in the country and earning
a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2013 and the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2014. The program is on the rise and many
attribute some of their success in part to the new, state of the art Matthew Knight Arena. The venue hosts big time basketball
action every season when the Ducks welcome foes like the Arizona Wildcats, Washington Huskies, UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans.
When not hosting Pac 12 basketball, the $227 million arena welcomes many of the biggest names in music like Bruno Mars, Phish
and the Zac Brown Band.
One of the most beloved college towns in the country, Eugene, Oregon

famed Pinot Noirs, just miles from the rugged Oregon Coast and Pacific Ocean, Eugene is a town with endless possibilities.
